Check whether the Sun, the Moon and the corona fit in your frame before you travel. A rough calculation using thin-lens optics.
Tips for this event
- Shoot with a front-mounted solar filter during the partial phases and remove it only during totality.
- Rehearse first: totality lasts minutes and there is no time to improvise.
- Focus manually in advance, on the edge of the Sun with the filter on.
Field of view
0.53° disc to scale. The halo marks 3 solar diameters: it is a framing guide for the corona, not its real shape.
